1. FAVOURITE D&R PLAYER/S OF ALL
TIME & WHY?
Paul Cavell - our best ever goalscorer and he transformed our season in
1991/92, (when we were Redbridge Forest). Courtney Naylor - he was good
while he was around!
1a. FAVOURITE CURRENT PLAYER/S AND
WHY?
Paul Cobb - combines goalscoring with creativity; an unselfish player.
Lee Matthews- a rock at the back (when he isn't injured).
2. BEST TEAM PERFORMANCE/S OF ALL
TIME?
Daggers 2 Morecambe 1: after extra time (FA Trophy 1997): the lads
outbattled a team that was more talented than us but was just not up for
the fight, (perhaps I single out this game because I live only 4 miles
from Morecambe).
2a. BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE 1998/99
SEASON?
Aylesbury 0 Daggers 1 (Aylesbury were top at the time).
3. WORST TEAM PERFORMANCE/S?
Every time we have played Purfleet over the last 3 years.
4. BEST GOAL OF ALL TIME?
Danny Shipp's long range effort against Peterborough in the Cup (1997).
4a BEST GOAL FROM 1998/99?
There were so many, I couldn't single one out!!!
5. MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?
Being on Wembley underground station and hearing the chant of "Ted
Hardy's red and blue army" echoing all around. A very surreal moment.
6. MOST FORGETTABLE MOMENT?
The penalty shoot out versus Ashford in the first round of the cup
(1996); Pratt and Johnson missed our first two penalties, Pratt's being
the worst effort I have seen in my entire life. Alternative answer: Graham
Carr's reign as manager was full of forgettable moments.
7. BEST COMMENT HEARD FROM THE
TERRACES?
"Paul Cobb, Paul Cobb- don't drink beer but he does the job".
Many of my mates find this chant very amusing for some reason.
8. WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO THE CLUB TO
IMPROVE IT?
Improve ties with the local community in Dagenham, and maintain ties with
Ilford, Leytonstone and Walthamstow so that residents of these places
realise that Dag & Red really is their local club. Also I would allow
local schools to attend matches for free, a bit like they do at Orient.
9. DO YOU FOLLOW A FOOTBALL LEAGUE
CLUB IF SO WHO?
Yes, Aston Villa.
10. WHAT OTHER QUESTION WOULD YOU
LIKE TO SEE ON THIS QUESTIONAIRE?
Worst ever player (or would that be a bit cruel?) Strangest way of
finding out the Daggers score. - (Mine would be when I was at the European
Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg talking to the British judge there,
Sir John Freeland. Somehow the topic of conversation got onto football and
I mentioned to him that Dag & Red had played Heybridge the previous
night. The next day, at court, to my surprise, he brought his old copy of
the Times with him so that I could find out the score (we won 6-2).
11. WHY DO YOU SUPPORT A NON-LEAGUE
CLUB LIKE DAGENHAM?
Because there is so much more atmosphere at non league games and there is
a much better relationship between players and fans. I can't explain
exactly why I am a Daggers fan though- it is just one of life's little
mysteries.
12. BEST MATCH BEEN TO NOT INVOLVING
THE DAGGERS?
Probably Wimbledon 3 Aston Villa 3, 1996 (even though the traitor Yorke
scored Villa's goal).
13. FAVOURITE NON-LEAGUE GROUND
VISITED EXCLUDING WEMBLEY?
I quite like Dover's ground, Crabble. Rushden & Diamond's ground,
Nene Park, just makes me jealous.
14. FAVOURITE LEAGUE GROUND VISITED?
St James Park, Newcastle.
15. BETWEEN WHAT YEARS DID YOU
SUPPORT THE DAGGERS?
I started supporting Leytonstone & Ilford in about 1987 and I have
followed them through the mergers since.
16. WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE MANAGER OF
ALL TIME?
It could only really be Ted Hardy, for his commitment to the club.
